The YSE Edit

The Skin Routine:
Backstage at NYFW with SIMKHAI

Written by Elizabeth Gehl

Nothing completes a stellar outfit like great skin. And in honor of Jonathan Simkhai’s return to the NYFW runway, we brought all the skincare essentials to achieve that supermodel finish: defined natural features, fresh skin, and a damn good gloss to top it off.

With help from celebrity esthetician Catherine Esposito and renowned makeup artist Diane Kendal, YSE Beauty brought SIMKHAI’s clean lines and silhouettes face-forward. Read more to discover the YSE routine that prepped and polished the runway this past New York Fashion Week.

STEP ONE.

Cleanse.

In the name of a clean base, Catherine prepped the skin with our Take it Off Gel-Oil Cleanser. A gentle formula free from stripping ingredients, this product glides like butter over the skin. Plant-based oils work to break down buildup while the formula emulsifies into a milky rinse, wiping away to reveal a smooth and spotless canvas ready for the runway.

STEP TWO.

Exfoliate.

Next up, refresh. After back-to-back shows, Catherine treated the skin with Your Favorite Ex to lock in a squeaky-clean base. These (soon to be) portable exfoliating pads are the key to ridding skin of residual dirt and grime, dissolving dead skin, and delivering a smooth-looking finish. With a light hand, Catherine swiped the pads across the skin’s surface and down to the décolletage. She lets the product set fully into the skin before moving to the eye area.

STEP THREE.

Treat.

The Overachiever Brightening Eye Masks are the coveted multitaskers of the undereye area with depuffing, smoothing, and brightening properties. Catherine applied these as a fifteen-minute treatment to target dark circles, smooth fine lines, and combat dullness. Made with new-gen hydrogel technology, these patches hold tight to the skin while the rest of the routine is tackled—the secret weapon to an early morning call time.

And for the full face, she treated the skin with Morning Cocktail. A thin layer of our lightweight vitamin C works to optimize skin texture and reduce inflammation, balancing out the skin before makeup application.

STEP FOUR.

Hydrate.

The perfect moisturizer must be three things: weightless, indulgent, and straight to the point. Catherine applied Xtremely Rich liberally to the skin to reinforce hydration and soothe the skin before makeup, all while providing a slick base for a sculpting facial massage.

STEP FIVE.

Depuff.

With the moisturizer as a layer for the fingers to seamlessly glide over, Catherine uses firm pressure to massage the face with outward strokes towards the lymph nodes, present in the intersection of the ear and the jaw, directly below the jawline, next to the nose and down by the clavicle. These repetitive movements help to flush out unwanted fluid and sculpt out facial definition. She drains along the curvature of the face to emphasize bone structure, both tightening and waking up the skin.

STEP SIX.

Gloss.

The final touch—our hydrating lip mask, coming soon. This lip treatment is high-shine, long lasting, and soothing, providing both nourishment to the skin and an effortless edge to the look. Diane applies this universal lip sheen to each model, elevating the simple base of the overall look. Buildable, comfortable, and classic, this gloss complements modern, ready-to-wear design like no one’s business. And with that, these faces are runway ready.
